Submit an Abstract

All submissions must be made via the online Abstract Submission Portal. Mailed hard-copy or emailed electronic abstracts will NOT be accepted.

Abstract submission STRICTLY closes Friday 11 December 2026 11:59 PM AEDT

The presenting author must submit the abstract.

Do not leave your abstract submission until the last moment. ASA is not responsible for any technical issues, including those that may arise from high system usage during the final hours the abstract submission portal is open.

If you do not receive a confirmation email, your abstract has not been submitted.

You must follow the correct process (format and word length) for submitting your abstract.

Abstracts that are incorrectly formatted or exceed 350 words will be automatically rejected.

All presenters must be registered for the 2027 Meeting. Registration can be completed via the

Abstract Submission Portal, and the deadline for Early Bird registration is Friday 15 January 2027 11:59 AEDT.

Abstract Guidelines


This information is designed to assist you in preparing an abstract for Antimicrobials 2027.

What is an Abstract?

An abstract is a concise statement that provides the reader with a comprehensive yet clear understanding of your work. Your work could be a research project, a case study, or a similar endeavour.

Your abstract should inform readers about what you are going to present and should ignite their interest in your work. Based on your abstract, if accepted, the reader may decide to attend your presentation, visit your poster, or contact you for more information.

Abstract Format

Abstracts will ONLY be reviewed if submitted in the specified format:

  • Title, Authors & Affiliations in title case
  • Abstract content in sentence case
  • Sub-headings in sentence case
  • Use single-line spacing
  • All presentations MUST be in English
  • Abstracts MUST NOT exceed 350 words, excluding the title, authors, and affiliations
  • Abbreviations – include the full text on the first mention, followed by the abbreviation in parentheses


Mandatory Subheadings for Abstracts:

  • For Research and Projects (Aim, Background, Methods, Results, Conclusions)
  • For Case Studies only (Background, Case Report, Conclusions)

Abstract Content

  • You MUST include results or data in your abstract
  • You may upload one figure or table
  • Abstracts that describe plans for a study or state “results will be presented” will NOT be accepted
  • Abstracts must contain original work that has not previously been reported in Australia
  • Abstracts may be original research, case studies, or insight and review articles
  • Full papers are NOT required
  • Do NOT include references
  • Do NOT submit abstracts with typographical or grammatical errors

Abstract Review Process


  • A panel will review submitted abstracts.
  • The Abstract Review Panel will decide the type of presentation ie Oral, Flash Poster, or Poster.
  • The Antimicrobials Committee reserves the right to accept or refuse any abstract.


Please indicate when submitting your abstract if you wish to be considered to give an:


  • Oral Presentation: The presenting author will provide a twelve-minute oral summary of their work, followed by three minutes of questions. Six oral proffered papers have been included within the symposium sessions for the meeting.
  • Flash Poster Presentation: The presenting author will present a three-minute oral summary of their work, followed by two minutes of questions at the flash poster session, and a printed poster at their allocated poster session. The one-hour flash poster session will have eight presentations. The three-minute oral presentation will include only three PowerPoint slides: (1) title, names of authors and institutions and the aim of the study; (2) the study’s results; (3) the study’s conclusions and the allocated poster number. Flash Poster presentations will be considered for the ASA Poster Travel Award for attendance at the 2028 Annual Scientific Meeting.
  • Poster Presentation: Poster sessions are scheduled during the Thursday and Friday afternoon tea breaks. The presenting author will stand by their poster(s) at their allocated poster session.

Final Abstract Submission Checklist

Test your abstract before submitting it.

Ask someone else to read it and to tell you what your work was about. It is a good idea to have someone who is not familiar with

the work/research being described test-read your abstract.

Have you proofread your abstract several times?

Check for spelling and grammatical errors, as well as logical consistency. Reading your abstract aloud can help you catch mistakes your eyes might miss.

Have you received approval from your workplace to submit your abstract with their affiliations?

Where applicable.

Have you included all abstract authors in your submission?

Have you typed your email address correctly in the abstract submission portal?

This is where all correspondence will be sent.

Any abstract left in DRAFT after the close ofabstract submissions will not be accepted for review.
